Semi-Annual Conference of the “MAN North America Executive Group” at MEC MEC recently hosted the 2007 semi-annual “Top Executive Conference” of all of MAN’s North American subsidiaries. The event took place on May 10th and 11th at the Headquarters of “MAN Engines & Components Inc. (MEC)”, the General Importer of “MAN Commercial Vehicle Division AG” out of Munich, Germany. Organized by the Groups Parent Company “MAN Capital Corporation” out of New York, the outcome of this conference was extremely helpful to all participants due to the thorough discussions on the group’s joint programs like Health Care for all US employees, 401K issues, and new opportunities for Special Project Financing. The discussions also included new strategies to improve the development of new business potentials in North and Middle America, by moving closer together as one MAN –Team. The goal of these activities should lead to an increase in overall sales and to a more visible presence of MAN in this part of the world. Today all MAN North America group members combined are generating a Sales Volume of close to one Billion US$ with a total of approximately 300 employees in North America.
Despite some smoke clouds originating from Everglades bush fires and the lack of our usual beautiful blue sky, everybody was extremely pleased with the outcome of the conference and impressed by MEC’s operation in South Florida. MAN at the 2007 Miami
International Boat Show North American premier: A new smooth-running 6-cylinder engine from MAN - R6-550 hp |
| MAN Engines and Components is proud to exhibit
its high-speed marine diesel engines at the Miami International Boat
Show from February 15 to 19 at Sea Isle Marina booth 709. MAN
engines have a reputation for technical excellence among boat
builders and operators. The diesel engines, which are packaged
locally in Pompano Beach, are regarded as one of the industry's most
reliably efficient and smooth running diesel engines. The design of
the in-line and V-engines are very compact, which ensures that they
take up as little space possible aboard boats. The range of MAN
marine engines extend from 550 hp to 1,550 hp. The ultra-modern
compression ignition engines are in great demand internationally to
power exclusive yachts, passenger and cargo ships and for efficient
pilot and patrol boats. MAN Engines & Components supplies
numerous well-known shipyards, which build yachts with lengths from
40 to more than 70 feet. The market for high-speed MAN marine diesel
engines is growing, particularly in the Unites
States. New MAN R6-550 completes the range of products The new R6-550 combines dynamics with an output of 404 kW/550 hp. From the speed range of 1,200 rpm the six-cylinder in-line engine provides a maximum torque of 1217ft/lbs (1650 Nm) and steadily maintains it over a wide speed range. |
|
The R6-550 features excellent full acceleration power and high speed, combined with smooth running capabilities. With its outstanding weight-to-power ratio of 3.60 lbs/hp (2.22 kg/kW) and an output of 1.31 hp/in3 (59 kW per litre) displacement the engine sets new standards in its class. The engine benefits from the development and know-how of a leading European commercial vehicle manufacturer, which has proven its efficiency in common-rail injection in numerous truck engines. The marine engine has been modified for application in boat operation, which provides more power, low fuel consumption and low exhaust-gas emissions. The R6-550 also complies with the international pollutant limits in accordance with IMO, RCD 94/25/EC and EPA tier 2. High-speed marine diesels from MAN are among the leading international engineering products. Though compact in size, they are powerful, quiet, environmentally compliant and extremely reliable. |
| Economical MAN R6-800
This streamlined six-cylinder, in-line engine from MAN has compact dimensions and a dry weight of just 2860 lbs (1,300 kg), an important factors for boat builders. Boat operators are interested in the power: 588 kW/800 hp and a maximum torque of 1991 ft/lb (2,700 Nm) at 1,300 rpm. At the rated speed of 2,300 rpm the torque is 1800 ft/lb (2,441 Nm). The MAN engine nevertheless has modest specific fuel consumption - at the rated power it amounts to 41.7 gal/hr (158 litres/hour). Wide range of ratings with the MAN V engines The higher power range includes 8-, 10- and 12-cylinder engines in a V design ranging from 900 hp (662kW) to 1,550 hp (1140 kW). The distinctive features of these MAN engines are the high weight-to-power ratios and a high force from low speeds. The low consumption permits large operating ranges. With international certificates for emission regulations, MAN marine engines are an investment for the future. Thanks to the compact installation dimensions of the V engines boat designers have greater flexibility for their designs. Reliably monitored by MMDS The electronic engine control is integrated in the electronic diagnostic and monitoring system MMDS (MAN Monitoring and Diagnostic System), which also records general shipping reports and alarms. Service technicians and yacht operators can obtain the information in an excellent screen quality on 6.3, 10 or 15 inch TFT displays. The monitoring system records all the important engine-specific data such as the speed, oil pressure, boost pressure and charge-air temperature and the level and temperature of the coolant. In addition the system indicates the contents of the tank and the speed, calculates the consumption values and the relevant operating range. To ensure optimal safety on board MMDS intervenes in operating conditions, which put the engine at risk and automatically reduces the engine speed. |
